Top Skills to Develop for 2023
With the new year quickly approaching, we will soon be talking about new year’s resolutions and goals for the new year. Oftentimes, people create lofty new year’s resolutions without taking the time to assess what worked and didn’t work. This is your opportunity for self-reflection and to focus on some of the top skills we see as necessary for 2023.
Diverse Networks – Along with a rapid number of women leaving companies, there are also layoffs, hiring freezes, and job offer rescissions to worry about. During these times in the changing economy, it is important to be putting effort towards building a diverse network. Finding people to connect with not only in your current department but also in other companies as well. Through a diverse network, not only do you gain new perspectives and clarity in what is working well in other organizations, but you also develop relationships that could provide you with new opportunities in the future.
Questions to Ask Yourself:
Are you spending time developing new relationships?
What kind of networking activities are you attending outside of work?
What value are you able to offer someone outside of your organization?
Boundary Management – During the holidays, take time to assess your boundaries. It is okay if your priorities are shifting during this time. Taking time away from work with your family or friends can help you to reinvigorate your goals and look inward on where you have been spending your time. If you haven’t been keeping firm to your boundaries or even communicating your boundaries, now is the time to get clear on defining what your boundaries are.
Questions to Ask Yourself:
What are your top 5 priorities right now?
Are you taking time to assess your top 5 priorities month-to-month?
How are you currently communicating your boundaries with the people that matter?
Diversity and Inclusion - The workplace is shifting and there is a greater need to find advocates for female leaders in the workplace. According to McKinsey, women leaders are leaving companies at the highest rate in years. With fewer women in the workforce, this leaves room for biases and prejudice.
Questions to Ask Yourself:
Are you currently fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment?
What is one thing you can do to make the organization more diverse and inclusive?
How are you working to develop relationships with people who can be your advocate in the workplace?
After taking some time to reflect, you can take strategic action to develop your 2023 goals. Join us at the upcoming Engage Event on December 6th, where we talk with three leaders who reflect on their leadership journey and the changes that they have faced this year.
